The primary focus of the dispatcher position is to serve as a conduit in which information is transmitted between the public and police personnel so appropriate action can be taken. Major responsibilities of the position are answering the department’s telephone lines and radio systems; dispatching calls, recording information in the records management system, operate the Georgia Crime Information Computer (GCIC), monitor campus alarms and access control system, monitor the closed circuit television system, and perform other duties as assigned. The ability to multitask is essential for this position.

Required Qualifications

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a U.S. Citizen. High school diploma or GED required. Applicant should have well developed keyboarding skills (40 wpm minimum) and be familiar with MS Windows. Applicant must be able to speak English fluently, with a clear voice. Since the dispatcher is responsible for working with multiple pieces of equipment, applicant must have full upper body movement. Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen (hair), entry level dispatcher test, voice stress test, psychological screening and extensive background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer an associate degree or two years towards a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

Salary $14.48/hr minimum - $17.85/hr midpoint
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Since the dispatcher is responsible for working with multiple pieces of equipment, applicant must have full upper body movement. Normal office environment with long periods of sitting.
