Nature of Work

America Reads/America Counts (ARAC) is a partnership between Student Employment and surrounding school districts. ARAC has been a part of our Federal Work-Study program since the 1997-1998 academic year.

In the elementary school positions, UWG student employees will assist kindergarten through fifth grade during school hours (Monday through Friday) who need extra help with their math and/or reading skills.

In the middle and high school positions, student employees will work with students up to ninth grade during class time (Monday – Friday) on Math skills.

Required Qualifications

To become an America Counts tutor a student must be offered Federal Work Study on his or her Financial Aid Award.

You must have and maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Have reliable transportation to get to and from work.

Preferred Qualifications

Education major; experience tutoring; experience working with children

Student Assistant II positions perform above-average duties of a complex nature requiring prior knowledge, skill, or training. Student Assistant II positions may be physically demanding and the work may be performed under difficult conditions. Students in these positions most often work with little to no supervision. This classification may be used while training for a higher level. This position does require the candidate to have Federal Work Study.

Required Qualifications

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.
