Nature of Work

The student will assist with a variety of tasks in the History Department’s Center for Public History, to include researching historical topics, planning and executing public events and programs, transcribing and indexing oral histories, digitizing and processing archival materials, assisting with marketing for the Center for Public History, organizing project records, and other office management tasks as needed. Student may also help with website development and social media marketing. Student may be required to assist with and/or attend special programs, events, or research trips either on campus or in the field. Student may be required to attend weekly staff meetings.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 2.5 Overall GPA required. History major preferred, minor considered. Office experience desired, including word processing and general organizational skills. Good writing and oral communication skills required. Research skills required. Research skills preferred. Public service skills and experience and website building and management skills desired, but not required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Light lifting of archival boxes and materials.
Hours per Week: 10 to 12 hours/week
Start Date: 08/16/2017
Days & Hours Needed: Tuesdays and Thursdays preferred.

FWS Student Assistant I positions include standard, routine duties which require minimal prior training or experience. Most often, FWS Student Assistant I positions work with other students and are frequently supervised. This position does require the candidate to have Federal Work Study.

Required Qualifications

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.
