Nature of Work

Peer tutors are viewed as academic student leaders and are significant contributors to the University of West Georgia community. We believe Peer Tutors provide wonderful motivation for learning and act as a role model to their fellow peers. As members of the Center for Academic Success staff, Peer Tutors work on an individual basis or in small group sessions to answer questions on course content and to provide study strategies to aid in the mastery of core course content.

Required Qualifications

Earned a grade of A in the course(s) one will tutor
Overall GPA at least 3.0

Mastery of subject being tutored

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work well with peers
Ability to work well with faculty
Ability to be empathetic to students having difficulties

Student Assistant II positions perform above-average duties of a complex nature requiring prior knowledge, skill, or training. Student Assistant II positions may be physically demanding and the work may be performed under difficult conditions. Students in these positions most often work with little to no supervision. This classification may be used while training for a higher level.

Required Qualifications

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.

Attend tutoring training as required by CRLA. Training is held once prior to each semester and bi-weekly through the semester.

Other training as required by University of West Georgia.

Provide peer tutoring to students. This includes being punctual for scheduled appointments, taking notes during session, following up with tutees who miss appointments, and serve as a role model for students seeking assistance.
